“…EVEN PERFECT NUTRITION AND TRAINING WILL ONLY GET YOU SO FAR.
THE REST IS MADE UP WITH THE MIND.”
Phosphatidylserine (abbreviated Ptd-L-Ser or PS) is a phospholipid and is a component of the cell membrane. It plays a key role in cell cycle signaling, specifically in relationship to apoptosis.
A recent study by Erin M. Shackell and Lionel G. reveals that the brain/body connection is greater than either of them alone.
That study measured the strength gains in three different groups of people.
• The first group did nothing outside their usual routine.
• The second group was put through two weeks of highly focused strength training for one specific muscle, three times a week.
• The third group listened to audio CDs that guided them to imagine themselves going through the same workout as the exercising group, three times a week.
• The first group saw no gains in strength.
• The second group, who trained three times a week, saw a 28% gain in strength.
• The third group who did not exercise, but rather thought about exercising experienced nearly the same gains in strength as the exercise group (24%).
Therefore, imagine the amount of muscle you could build if you had the right supplements for the body and brain.
L-Arginine L-arginine is a type of amino acid, i.e., one of the best “building blocks” of proteins. In addition to occurring naturally in “complete proteins”, L-arginine is also created in laboratory settings so it can be used to make supplements that benefit heart health, exercise performance, mental capabilities and much more.
L-arginine is considered somewhat essential because it’s highly important for many functions yet usually present in low quantities, especially as someone gets older.
One of the biggest benefits of L-arginine is its ability to improve blood flow and circulation.
In the body, L-arginine is converted into nitric oxide, which causes blood vessels to open wider.
This has multiple benefits, including improving immune function, fertility, detoxification and brain power.
Another important aspect of L-arginine is that it stimulates the production of certain hormones, especially beneficial growth hormones and insulin that help usher glucose into cells to be used for growth and energy output.
This is one of the reasons it’s believed to enhance physical performance, stamina and strength.
Commonly used in conjunction with isoleucine and leucine to promote muscle growth. It also provides energy and helps to repair tissues that are damaged during physical activity.
Valine is necessary for muscle metabolism and growth of muscle tissue. It also helps to maintain the proper amount of nitrogen in the body. Because it is a branched-chain amino acid, Valine can be used as an energy source in your muscles, preserving the use of glucose.
Because Valine is so essential for preserving, repairing and building muscle tissue, it is recommended for people involved with bodybuilding and other sports that require excessive use of the muscles.
Because L-Leucine helps increase endurance and energy and also promotes muscle tissue health and protection, it is essential for anyone who is serious about bodybuilding.
L-Leucine is an important amino acid needed for muscle-building. As one of the branch chain amino acids, leucine is essential to all bodybuilders because it is by far the most anabolic, or muscle building, according to the June 2013 “Journal of Physiology.”
Like the other branch chain amino acids, it is metabolized in our muscles directly rather than in the liver. Leucine is found in all sources of protein, however, taking additional leucine by itself or with the other branch chain amino acids offers further benefits to bodybuilders.
This is because the leucine in whole foods can take hours to be liberated and assimilated from its original source.
L-Isoleucine L-Isoleucine is one of the essential amino acids that cannot be made by the body and is known for its ability to help endurance and assist in the repair and rebuilding of muscle.
This amino acid is important to body builders as it helps boost energy and helps the body recover from training.
Isoleucine, like Valine is a BCAA, and they both serve as precursors for glutamine and alanine, used during intense weight training. It is used as fuel by muscle cells, sparing other amino acids from being burned up.
Like the other BCAAs, Isoleucine plays an important role in protein synthesis, anabolism and anti-catabolism. Without adequate BCAAs, muscle cells won’t heal and grow. BCAAs such as this can be ingested as a BCAA supplement, or via a whey containing supplement.
During intense training, Glutamine levels are greatly depleted in your body, which decreases strength, stamina and recovery.
It could take up to 6 days for Glutamine levels to return to normal – and Glutamine plays a key role in protein synthesis.
Studies have shown that L-Glutamine supplementation can minimize breakdown of muscle and improve protein metabolism.
Glutamine plays key roles in protein metabolism, cell volumizing, and anti-catabolism.
Glutamine also increases your ability to secrete Human Growth Hormone, which helps metabolize body fat and support new muscle growth. Glutamine’s anti-catabolism ability prevents the breakdown of your muscles.
Beta-alanine is one of the non-essential amino acids that is not easily consumed in the regular mixed diet of chicken, beef, whey, or fish. Due to this fact, it can make getting in your required dose slightly more difficult.
When it’s ingested by the body, beta-alanine will get converted into carnosine, which will then serve the purpose of increasing your stamina, strength as well as muscle development.
Carnosine can be found in both the two different muscle types in the body, but has higher concentration in the type two fibers, which are going to be more directed towards maximum strength and intensity exercises.
• Promote greater gains in increasing FFM (Fat Free Mass, which includes muscle mass).
• Increases muscle fiber size; hypertrophy.
• Increases muscle mass.
• Increases myosin.
• Improves maximal strength.
• Improves maximal power
It is not surprising, then, that users of PS report being able to think more quickly, more clearly, remember things better and report having lower occurrences of depressive though patterns.
Overall, users report being in better spirits – a result they attribute to PS supplementation.
The ability of PS to improve mood makes it a promising candidate in depression treatment; results to this end are so far promising.
PS supplementation appears to lead to improvement in overall brain function and health.
PS is thought to:
• Repair damaged nerve cells.
• Maintain nerve cell integrity.
• Enhance neurotransmitter signal efficiency.
• Enhance cognition.
• Elevate mood.
• Enhance memory.
• Increase the brains absorption of nutrients.
• Improve nerve cell signal transmission.
Magnesium is a co-factor in over 350 enzymatic reactions in the body. It is necessary for the transmission of nerve impulses, muscular activity, heart function, temperature regulation, detoxification reactions, formation of healthy bones and improving insulin sensitivity.
The excess citrulline from supplementation is thought to put the urea cycle into overdrive, sucking up the ammonia (made of three nitrogen molecules) produced by working muscles before it can produce fatigue.
Citrulline is also a by-product of the body’s conversion of the amino acid arginine into nitric oxide (NO).
